The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas is Eamon’s favourite film, and he wanted his cake to include Oogie Boogie, Jack and Sally, as well as his name and age.

I recreated the iconic image of Ooogie Boogie’s silhouette on the moon using coloured fondant, with the patchwork pattern on the base representing Sally’s dress, and Jack’s skull grinning out from the side.

How did I do?

Venom & Spider-Man

Milo’s cake features Venom battling Spider-Man.  The picture was creating as a run-out on wax paper, using multiple layers and colours of royal icing, and left to dry for a couple of days.  Needless to say, the kids loved it!

Deadpool

An antihero cake, this time: Deadpool.

It’s a chocolate sponge, sandwiched with blood-red buttercream, and covered with white fondant as a smooth canvas for the picture – which I created as a runout using coloured royal icing on wax paper (crossing my fingers and breathing deeply when I peeled it off!).

Jakob and his friends demolished it in a matter of moments!

Climbing Wall

Climbing...

Climbing…

Climbing as a hobby, and now as a birthday cake?  I faced the challenge with the same determination the children face the wall!
I built up layers of chocolate and vanilla sponge cake, sandwiching them together with buttercream and jam, then carved it to shape with the children’s help.

I managed to create a cement-coloured buttercream using cocoa and black food colouring, and covered the structure with it, leaving the surface rough, like the real climbing wall at The Rock Club where they climb.

Basketball

OMG, Josh is 20!!! And at 6’10”, what else could I make but a basketball?
Victoria sandwich chocolate cake, crumbled into chocolate buttercream with the help of Ethan and Lexi, then pressed into a glass bowl to form a hemisphere.  After a quick chill in the freezer, it was covered in orangey-coloured buttercream and lines piped on in black royal icing, using a real basketball as the template. Add Josh’s name and age, and we were done!
